Loan Repayment Strategies

The U.S. Department of Education has paused enrolling and renewing participants in all income-driven student loan repayment plans, including income-based repayment (IBR). The AVMA is monitoring the situation in Washington and working with student debt experts to prepare materials to help veterinary students and veterinarians navigate this evolving situation. Meanwhile, borrowers who are already enrolled in income-driven or income-based plans, or in Public Service Loan Forgiveness, are advised to document and retain all information related to their student loans, including repayment history.
